I decided to go to Tokyo Sushi for dinner. This is basically fast food sushi available in Edmonton. I figure I love sushi, it's probably cheap, this could be a match made in heaven. I tried to have reasonable expectations, it obviously wouldn't be as good as Furosato.
The menu certainly was cheap. At 6.59 the sushi combo provides you wiht 6 piece cucumber roll and 4 pieces of sushi. Knowing how much sushi I can eat I added a rainbow roll $4.59 and a tune hand roll $2.59.
Theh cucumber rolls looked...limp. Cucumber keeps pretty well so I don't know how they did this. The remaining sushi looked slightly unhealthy and there was less fish in general. All pieces came with a tonne of rice which I don't like but which makes sense -- this is supposed to fill you up and sushi just isn't that filling.
The rainbow roll was massive obviously intended to be a mean in iteself. Not much fish or avacado. Reasonaly tasty though, I just wish it had half the rice.
The spicy tuna hand roll was spicy but i wasn't very trusting of the meat. It loked just a bit weird.
Overall the construction of the sushi was subpar. Just not tightly woven. The rainbow roll was definitely the highlight of the meal.
Would I go back? I'm probably going to try and find some better sushi takeout options locally. Really I can't complain I got what I paid for and it was reasonable food for the price, and still definitely healthier than regular fast food. Lots of empty rice carbs though.
